There are three primary types: FSSAI Basic Registration (for businesses with annual turnover below ₹12 lakhs), State FSSAI License (for businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹2 crore), and Central FSSAI License (for large-scale manufacturers, importers, and exporters). Obtaining an FSSAI License involves a comprehensive process that requires businesses to submit detailed documentation and meet stringent food safety standards. The state FSSAI license is applicable to mid-sized companies like small to medium-sized manufacturers, storage units, transporters, retailers, marketers, distributors who have annual turnover between Rs.12-20 crores. This is issued by the State Government, and with this licence, you are allowed to operate in only one state.
This registration is applicable for large businesses like Importers, 100% Export Oriented Units, large manufacturers, operators in the Central Government agencies, airports, seaports, etc., with annual turnover above Rs.20 crores. This is issued by the Central Government.
Access the Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Click on "Apply for License/Registration" to begin the process.
Select the appropriate option based on your business needs Basic Registration for businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh. State License for businesses with a turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore. Central License for businesses exceeding ₹20 crore in turnover.
Complete the application form (Form A for Basic Registration or Form B for State/Central License) by providing all mandatory details, including Business name and address, Type of business, List of directors or partners, Equipment and machinery details
Upload the required documents, which may include pan card, Proof of business address, Identity proof of owners or partners
After submission, track your application status using the reference number provided. The FSSAI will review your application and may conduct an inspection within 30 days. Upon successful verification, you will receive your FSSAI registration certificate via email.
